Empowering Europe: Citizenship in Action – Youth Exchange in Ortelle, Italy

The project Empowering Europe: Citizenship in Action was successfully carried out from May 19 to May 27, 2024, in Ortelle, Italy. This youth exchange brought together 8 young participants and 2 group leaders from each of the three participating countries: Italy, Spain, and Romania. Coordinated by you media, the initiative aimed to address the disconnect many young people feel towards the European Union by empowering them with knowledge, skills, and a stronger European perspective.

The project’s primary objectives were:

1. To familiarize young people with the core values and fundamental principles of the European Union.
2. To develop social skills, teamwork, and collaboration among participants, reflecting essential EU values.
3. To raise awareness about the tangible impact of EU policies and activities on everyday life.
4. To promote active civic participation, encouraging youth to engage in democratic processes and recognize the importance of their voice in shaping European policies.
5. To deepen knowledge of European topics and foster intercultural dialogue among youth from diverse backgrounds.
6. To facilitate the creation of lasting networks and connections between young people from different countries, promoting collaboration and exchange beyond the project’s duration.

Through interactive workshops, group activities, and open discussions, the participants enhanced their understanding of European citizenship while improving their intercultural and linguistic skills. The youth also had the opportunity to share cultural traditions and games from their respective countries, fostering mutual respect and team spirit.

The project created a supportive and inclusive environment, encouraging reflection on both personal and collective experiences related to European identity and civic engagement. At the end of the exchange, participants returned home with expanded European knowledge and a renewed sense of belonging and responsibility as active members of the European community.

Empowering Europe: Citizenship in Action represents a valuable step towards nurturing informed, responsible young citizens ready to contribute to the future of the European Union.
